The Group Sustainability Manager is responsible for delivering specialist knowledge to the business and driving increased capability within the organisation across all elements of sustainability from supplier to market. This person will play a key role in developing corporate offerings that are aligned with the suppliers’ own corporate goals to ensure the organisation is best in class in this area. Reporting to the Head of Continuous Improvement, the Group Sustainability Manager will have key involvement with cross functional teams and with external suppliers. He/She will have full responsibility for developing an appropriate strategy to meet the organisations future needs and ensuring that all deliverables, including target savings, are met.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide expertise and leadership in the area of sustainability, energy and the green agenda;
  • Lead the development and implementation of an overall strategy for the business relating to sustainability;
  • Develop a corporate offering and associated documentation and programmes to bring sustainability into focus for the business;
  • Develop a significant customer value proposition in this area versus our competitors;
  • Communicate relevant developments in this area to the wider business;
  • Develop an overall carbon management strategy including key metrics at vendor and factory levels;
  • Drawing on international systems, develop a mechanism to calculate our carbon footprint at product level;
  • By focusing on the four key pillars of sustainability (supplier systems, economy, social and environmental), develop sustainability targets and establish goals for the business in the relevant areas;
  • Identify, drive and implement cost saving initiatives across all of the organisation
  • Ensure that sustainability considerations regarding growth plans are fully considered and understood by the business;
  • Conduct benchmarking exercises to ensure the organisation develops in line with best in class companies in this area;
  • Maintain Emission Trading Scheme within the organisation;
  • Effective management of energy (electrical, thermal, water) as one of the organisations significant annual spends;
  • Act as an ambassador to represent the organisation in external sustainability related matters;
  • Develop and liaise with all departments to drive excellence in the organisations sustainability agenda and ensure continuity, consistency in strategy and execution of same;
  • Actively contribute to the continuous improvement agenda from a sustainability perspective;
  • Development of associated budgets.


Requirements

  • Third level degree (minimum 2.1) and/or masters qualification in a relevant discipline
  • 7 + years’ experience in a similar role at a senior level.
  • Strong technical knowledge in the area of carbon footprint, green agenda and sustainability.
  • Up to date knowledge of current trends and sectoral challenges pertaining to the area of sustainability within this particular manufacturing sector;
  • Proven working relationship with people
  • Good influencing skills;
  • Confident and optimistic with positive energy and drive to meet targets and achieve results.
  • Strong business acumen and commercial aware.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills to resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Willingness to work effectively in a team environment and to adapt to challenges in the course of achieving objectives.
  • Willing to constructively challenge the status quo.
  • Innovative and creative solution orientated individual
  • Ability to motivate and coach people at all levels.
  • Proven track record of strong organisational skills, ability to prioritise tasks and focus on and meet task deadlines.
  • Ability to develop credibility, authority and respect within the business and with external parties.
  • Demonstrated evidence of strong project management and presentation skills a must.
